Lake Manyara – A Scenic Gem of the Rift Valley

bg 08

OVERVIEW

Located at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is known for its striking landscapes and ecological diversity. Despite its relatively small size, the park offers a rich concentration of wildlife and habitats, ranging from groundwater forests to open floodplains and the alkaline lake itself.

Lake Manyara gained recognition for its unique tree-climbing lions and large troops of baboons, as well as its impressive birdlife. During certain seasons, thousands of flamingos gather along the lake’s shores, creating a spectacular.

The park plays an important role within Tanzania’s conservation network and forms part of the larger Lake Manyara Biosphere Reserve, designated by UNESCO in 1981. This status highlights the area’s ecological significance and its balance between conservation and sustainable use by local communities.

Easily accessible and often included as part of the northern safari circuit, Lake Manyara offers a diverse and visually stunning experience, making it an excellent introduction to Tanzania’s wildlife and landscapes.
